My amazing boyfriend and I have 'known of' each other for about five or six years, but never met. His dad coached the hockey team that my sisters played on in high school, and he helped his dad coach. I used to help drive my sisters over to the hockey rink a lot, so I would see him and his dad almost every time. We had never actually spoken to each other or even really had much contact.
Now, five or six years later, I'm sitting in my room working on my computer, and I notice I get a friend request from this boy that I never really knew, way back when from the hockey rink. I accept only because I remembered who he was, and my dad still knows his dad. Awhile later, my Facebook chat pops up with his name on it saying, "Sarah!!!" "Hmm..." I think, this should be interesting. A boy I don't really know and I've never talked to is 'screaming' my name at me. Should I answer? He's cute, so what the hell. Haha.
I go on screaming his name back, and we start chatting. He then goes on to ask me out...or really tell me that we should go out. So feeling very flattered and kind of curious, I accepted. We set a date for dinner and a movie and said goodbye to each other. However, unknown to me at the moment, it wasn't going to go as well as planned...
The day came for our first date, and I get a text from him saying that we're going to have to reschedule. I was of course kind of bummed, but figured, hey things come up. So, again, we set up another date for dinner and a movie, and that was that. Once more, the day of our first date comes, and I get another text saying that we're going to have to reschedule! What the heck!? I instantly got upset, because I was already all dressed up and looking forward to really meeting him. So I took a deep breath, and with a somewhat irritated tone, I asked him, "is this how it's going to be if we actually start dating?" He repeatedly apologized and said that it won't happen again, and promised that we will go on this date. So even though I was kind of over scheduling yet another 'date,' I went ahead and asked him when the next night he was available and set that up for our first date of dinner and a movie, while keeping my fingers crossed.
Now if you needed a laugh today, here you go... So once again, the day came, and I'm getting ready for our date, and I get 'the text.' However this time, he didn't fully cancel on me. He just tells me that he has to work later than usual and we will only be able to do a movie, instead of dinner and a movie. I remember telling myself.."sheesh, this guy better be worth it for all this trouble!"
He finally shows up at my apartment to pick me up in the same kind of car I have (match point one), and after giving him a bit of a hard time, he makes up for it with his charming good looks and humor (match point two). (Yah, I'm a sucker for a guy who can make me laugh.) We made it to the movie and we watched 'Easy A,' which was my pick since he blew me off so many times. Even though seeing a movie isn't the greatest idea for first date, it went well enough for me to want to see him again.
After the movie, he dropped me off and I think we both knew we wanted to see each other again. So a few nights later, he came over to my place. We watched 'The Hangover' on my laptop and ate a bowl of popcorn. About halfway through the movie, he looked at me, motioned with his hand for me to come closer. Excitement ran through my body, butterflies squirmed in my stomach, and then...we locked lips for our first kiss (match point three..ding ding ding)! It was amazing, and from that moment, something inside me told me that this was good, and to hold on to this one.
